A Different Kind of Feel-Good Friday Story: Border Patrol Agent in WhipGate Hoax Awarded by DHS

File this story in the you-can't-make-this-stuff-up folder.

Remember the five Border Patrol agents on horseback who patrolled the Rio Grande River bank in Texas? An adviser to former San Antonio mayor and HUD secretary started a lie on social media that the agents were whipping Haitian migrants as they waded through the Rio Grande toward the Texas shore. It was a hoax to smear Border Patrol agents but the Biden administration fell for it. The agents were taken off their assignment as the lie went viral. The photographer who took the photo used to justify the lie said immediately that the agents were not whipping the migrants. The reins on their horses were double reins used to control the horses, not whip migrants.

It would have been a laughable story from a hideously corrupt Democrat but it was horrific for the agents. They were eventually exonerated but they never received an apology from DHS Secretary Mayorkas - who originally spoke out in support of them before President Biden and the administration went full-force against them in public statements. Biden has not apologized, either.

Joe Biden is not a friend of law enforcement. He is the first to support false narratives that show law enforcement in a bad light. He huffed and puffed against the Border Patrol agent and said the full force of the law would be thrown at them before an investigation even began. He assumed they were guilty.

The agents on horseback were doing their job protecting the riverbank in Del Rio, Texas. About 14,000 migrants, mostly Haitians, were trying to cross the river to enter the United States illegally.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognized one of those five agents for his work on human smuggling cases.

The agent — whose name has been withheld since the September 2021 incident to protect his identity — received a Border Patrol Achievement award from the agency Thursday morning, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) source told The Post.

The agent was recognized for his intelligence work on human smuggling cases, they added.

A DHS source told The Post: “I find it hilarious and ridiculous that almost three years later, a Border Patrol agent who was accused of being racist and so vilified by this Biden administration now wins an achievement award for his efforts in preventing smuggling before he gets a public apology.”

Cool. Now how about at least an apology for the agents?

The administration knew all along they were wrong to smear the agents. Yet, they persisted.

Days after the incident, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was forced to walk back a statement criticizing the actions of the agents on horseback.

“I made the statements without having seen the images,” he said from the White House press briefing room on Sept. 24, 2021.

“The horses have long reins, and the image in the photograph that we all saw, and that horrified the nation, raised serious questions about what … occurred and as I stated quite clearly, it conjured up images of what has occurred in the past,” Mayorkas added, referring to slavery in the US.

Fortunately for this agent, he's working and now being acknowledged for his work.

The agent who received the award Thursday was reassigned to work intelligence on smuggling cases, which earned him recognition from his superiors.

He eventually was permitted to return to work along the border and allowed to interact with migrants, according to the DHS source.

Karma. Team Biden is a national disgrace. Here's hoping they are kicked to the curb in November.
